Sirsa village inaugurates women’s digital library, honours girl students
In Nathusari Kalan village of Sirsa district, a Women’s Digital Library was inaugurated. At the same event, the village panchayat honoured girl students who scored merit positions in Class X and XII.
The chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner Laksit Sareen, inaugurated the digital library and congratulated the meritorious students, their teachers and parents. He said the library was set up to promote reading habits and support digital education, especially for women and girls. He added that the libraries were essential for the growth of society and culture and were symbols of a country’s collective wisdom and talent.
Village Sarpanch Rita Jagatpal Kasania said with this library, girls and women will no longer need to leave the village for study resources. They can now prepare for their for competitive exams right from their own village. She also reminded everyone how, in ancient times, people from other countries used to take Indian books, translate them, and gain knowledge showing how libraries were a shared heritage of humanity.
Guest speaker Satveer Singh Dhidharia and Panchayati Raj Engineer Gaurav Bhardwaj emphasised the power of books. They shared how one book, like ‘Unto This Last’ by John Ruskin, had changed Mahatma Gandhi’s life. Another speaker Dalbir Singh said that books have the “smell of the earth and the vastness of the sky,” stressing the value of both modernisation and digital access in today’s libraries.
The event saw the presence of many dignitaries, including social workers, local leaders, teachers, students, and villagers. Everyone appreciated the effort and called it a great step for women’s education and empowerment in the village.
