BPEO building in Nurmahal remains abandoned, not put to use
Although the Block Primary Education Office (BPEO) building at Chuheki village, located on the Nurmahal-Jalandhar Road, has been completed, it remains unused for its intended purpose.
The project was initiated when the late Gurdeep Singh Bhullar, former MLA of Nurmahal, successfully persuaded the Chuheki village panchayat to donate 2 kanals of land to the Primary Education Department, as the department was unable to find a suitable location in Nurmahal town for the office.
In July 2007, former Deputy Commissioner Ajit Singh Pannu and Gurdeep Singh Bhullar jointly laid the foundation stone for the BPEO building. The government allocated Rs 7 lakhs for the construction, and an additional Rs 3 lakh grant was provided later, as the original funds were insufficient to complete the project.
Despite the building’s completion, the Block Primary Education Office has not been relocated to the new facility. Instead, the building has become a hotspot for anti-social elements and drug addicts.
The Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) has stated that the office cannot be shifted to the new building due to a lack of a security guard, further delaying the use of the completed structure.
