Bank Holiday Alert: Banks To Remain Shut In THIS Region Today For Maharana Pratap Jayanti
Banks in Shimla will remain closed on Thursday, May 29, 2025, in observance of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, as per the Reserve Bank of India's state-wise holiday schedule. However, banking operations across the rest of the country will continue as usual on this day.
Maharana Pratap Jayanti is observed to honor the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap Singh, the legendary Rajput king of Mewar known for his resistance against Mughal rule and his valor at the Battle of Haldighati. Though he was born on May 9, 1540, according to the Julian calendar, the celebration of his birth anniversary follows the Hindu lunar calendar. In 2025, the date of observance falls on May 29.
Upcoming Bank Holiday
Looking ahead, banks in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on June 6, 2025, on account of Id-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid). This closure is region-specific and part of the broader RBI holiday framework, which accommodates regional, religious, and cultural festivals across states.
Bank Holidays And Online Services
Bank holidays in India vary by region and are designated for national events, religious festivals, and regional celebrations. Additionally, all banks are closed on Sundays, as well as the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Despite physical branches being closed, online banking services remain operational nationwide, allowing customers uninterrupted access to a wide range of banking functions. Digital services such as fund transfers (NEFT/RTGS), credit and debit card management, cheque requests, and account maintenance can be accessed without visiting a branch.
