Ajay Devgn Wanted To Cast Daughter Nysa Devgan In Kajol's Maa? Actor Reveals At Film's Trailer Launch

The powerful and intriguing trailer of Maa, starring Kajol and Kherin Sharma, was unveiled by the makers on Thursday (May 29) in Mumbai. The film showcases Kajol in an intense role, portraying both a fierce protector and a relentless destroyer, as she battles evil to safeguard her daughter, played by Kherin.

The film has been directed by Vishal Revanti Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Santha Subbarayan.

During the trailer launch event, Ajay was asked whether he had considered casting his daughter, Nysa Devgan, in the film. Responding to a media person, he said, "She is not interested in this kind of work."

Nysa, the eldest child of Ajay and Kajol, studied at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and later enrolled at the United College of Southeast Asia in Singapore. Though she's often in the limelight for her fashion statements and social outings in Mumbai, she has yet to make her foray into films.

Kajol has previously addressed the buzz around Nysa's potential acting debut, saying her daughter is still too young to decide on a career in showbiz.

In a 2023 interview, Kajol also defended Nysa against online trolling, saying, "I feel proud of her… she conducts herself with dignity. She's 19 and has the right to do whatever she wants. I will always support her."

About Maa

With Maa, Kajol has ventured into the mythological-horror genre. The film is set to release on June 27, 2025. It promises a gripping narrative rooted in the eternal conflict between good and evil.

The trailer showcases the story of Kajol and Kherin, who move to a new place, and what unfolds there changes their lives, or rather, puts their lives in danger. In the village they move to, young girls have been mysteriously disappearing for the past few months. The film features a sinister forest that has remained insatiable for centuries, despite feeding on the blood of children. At the heart of this forest stands a haunting tree, believed to be home to terrifying demons.

Kherin's character finds herself in danger, as the villagers attempt to offer her as the next sacrifice. How Kajol fights against the villagers and the demons to save her daughter forms the crux of the story.

The trailer teases spine-chilling visuals, ghostly apparitions of young girls appearing on treetops, on car windows, swinging on deserted swings, or eerily walking along the walls, entangled in the haunted branches of a demonic tree.

Maa also stars Ronit Boseroy, Indraneil Sen Gupta, and Jitin Gulati. It will also have a cameo by Shaitaan actor R Madhavan.
