Karni Sena Criticises Theatre Owners & Film Distributors For 'Sidelining' Sooraj Pancholi's Kesari Veer, Threatens Protest: 'Give It Prime-Time Slots' (VIDEO)
The Karni Sena has expressed dissatisfaction with the non-prime-time show slots allotted to the recently-released historical film Kesari Veer, starring Sooraj Pancholi and Suniel Shetty. The film is based on the legendary sacrifice of Veer Hamirji Gohil and other brave warriors who gave up their lives to protect the sacred Somnath temple from the oppressive Tughlaq rulers.
In a strongly worded post on social media, Karni sena leader Dr Raj Shekhawat praised the film and called it a tribute to India's glorious past and the bravery of its forgotten heroes.
"All Indians must watch this film. It is my humble request to the public to support such a powerful and culturally significant film. I also urge theatre owners and film distributors to immediately reconsider their decision and grant Kesari Veer a prime-time slot so that it can reach a wider audience," he wrote on his official X account on May 27.
He also criticised the current time slots for being poorly chosen. "The film has been scheduled at a time when most viewers attend temple aartis. Naturally, they are unable to go to the theatres during these hours. This is not just injustice to the film and the efforts of its makers, but also a grave insult to the warriors whose supreme sacrifices it showcases," Shekhawat added.
Shekhawat further said that Kesari Veer is not just a film but a cinematic retelling of India's pride and historical legacy.
"It is a story that needs to be told - of brave sons of Bharat who laid down their lives for dharma and the motherland. This film narrates the valorous tale of Hamirji Gohil and many other warriors who stood as protectors of faith and culture."
Raising concern over the lack of mainstream attention, he questioned, "Why is a film that portrays our cultural heritage and national pride not being shown during prime time? The youth of India have the right to know about the heroism of their ancestors. Keeping this film away from the spotlight is denying them that right."
He also issued a warning to theatre chains and film distributors. "If this decision is not reviewed, we will be forced to take to the streets. We will not remain silent if our historical heroes and their stories are sidelined," he warned.
Shekhawat concluded his appeal by urging all citizens to take their families and children to see the film. "Let the upcoming generations be proud of their history. Let them know the valour and legacy of warriors who lived and died for their country and dharma. Let’s take Kesari Veer to every household."
Kesari Veer's poor box office performance
The Karni sena leader's post comes amid the film's poor box office performance. It hit the big screens on May 23 and has managed to earn only Rs 1.37 crore so far. It clashed with Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf at the box office.
Kesari Veer also stars Vivek Oberoi and Akanksha Sharma. It is directed by Prince Dhiman.
