Meet S Padmanabhan, the man who has replaced N Chandrasekaran as chairman of….
Padmanabhan Sankaranarayanan is going to succeed N Chandrasekaran as Tata Chemicals Ltd. chairperson. He however, will officially occupy the position on May 30. Chandrasekaran stepped down on Wednesday.
Padmanabhan, who started his career with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. in 1982, was initially a non-executive director of Tata Chemicals Ltd. in December 2016. In 1982 he dealt with software projects and related logistics for various countries including India.
He served in TCS for over 26 years from 1982 to 2008, and eventually reached the position executive director of human resources.
He then joined on as executive director of operations of Tata Power from 2008 to 2014. He handled the business of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. He also served on the boards of the operating subsidiaries of the firm.
He served as group chief human resources officer at Tata Sons. He also headed the Tata Business Excellence Group and the Tata Group Ethics function. Padmanabhan has been serving as the chairperson of the Governing Council of Business Excellence since 2014.
He is currently serving as the chairperson of the board of Rallis India Ltd. and also a director on the board of the Associated Building Company Ltd., TCE Group Ltd. and Tata Chemicals North America Inc.
Padmanabhan did his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PSG College of Technology from 1975 – 1980 and received an Honours grade. He his schooling from Shree Baldevdas Kikani Vidyamandir High School from 1968 to 1974.
He then received his postgraduate diploma in Business Management, Systems and Marketing from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore in 1982.
He also did an Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School Executive Education in 2011.
