What is backlace accessory? The bold jewellery trend that Jhanvi Kapoor, Sabrina Carpenter are bringing to the red carpet spotlight

Cannes Film Festival, also known as the International Film Festival, is one of the most prestigious and glamorous film festivals. It is held every year in the French Riviera with A-list celebrities, filmmakers, producers, influencers, and many others associated with the film industry. But besides being a platform of cinematic brilliance, this festival has also become a platform to showcase avant-garde styles and fashion. From the glamorous gowns to dazzling designer silhouettes, every year the Cannes film festival has fashion enthusiasts taking notes.

Amongst the many celebrities who attended the festival this year, Jhanvi Kapoor was one of the attendees who captivated the hearts of many with her breathtaking appearance and sartorial fashion picks. Representing India in full glory, Jhanvi kapoor was there for her film Homebound.  Not only did her film make waves, but it was all her looks that made headlines. Blending both vintage craft and modern twist, Jhanvi donned a custom Anamika Khanna gown that featured a mint green train and golden embroidered bodice, giving a queen vibe.

But besides her gown, her unique jewellery also took the center stage, a stunning backlace. The IT girl of fashion embraced this jewellery with utmost confidence. Crafted by Aurus Jewels, this back necklace added a touch of drama and a hint of tease to her bare back look. She completed this statement piece with Jhumkis, chunky kadas, and Burmese rubies by Reja Gems.

This isn’t the first time this trend has been making waves. From Cannes to the Oscars and the Grammys, they’ve become the go-to accessory for fashion-forward stars. At the 2025 Oscars, actress Margaret Qualley styled her black gown with a dazzling diamond back necklace. Sabrina Carpenter also hopped on the trend at the Grammys, letting a long pendant trail down her back. Anya Taylor-Joy rocked a similar style at The Gorge screening, while Sonam Kapoor, the queen of statement fashion, earlier styled a reverse necklace with her own Anamika Khanna outfit.

Though not a brand-new trend, style icons like Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson have sported it in the past.

One thing is certain: in 2025, it’s not the necklace in front that makes the statement, but the one behind.
