Will MI Crash Out In Eliminator? Here's Why Gujarat Holds The Edge

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are set to face Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator of IPL 2025 on Friday (May 30), to be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.

Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, MI have staged a remarkable comeback this season.

After a poor start, they picked up momentum mid-season and shook up the points table. However, their journey could end here if they fail to overcome a familiar challenge - Gujarat Titans.

Stats don't favor Mumbai

MI's biggest concern heading into this clash is their poor record against GT.

Out of the seven matches played between these teams in IPL history, Gujarat have won five, while Mumbai have only managed to win two. Even this season, GT dominated both league encounters - winning the first by 36 runs and the second by 3 wickets.

This head-to-head record clearly shows that Gujarat have been a tough opponent for Mumbai, and the pressure will be on MI to break this trend in the knockout game.

Gujarat's batting line-up on fire

One of the main reasons behind Gujarat's immense success in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has been the consistent performance of their top-order.

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill have led from the front. Sudharsan is currently the highest run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 679 runs in 14 matches at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 155. Gill has been equally impressive, scoring 649 runs with an average of 54 and a strike rate of 156.

Given the form of their top-order, Gujarat will be a major threat. MI's bowlers will have to be at their best to restrict these in-form batters.
