Jaipur: In a notable case of organ donation, at the age of 84 years, a mother has donated her kidney to her 50-year-old daughter. The successful transplant took place in the government run Sawai Mansingh Hospital of Jaipur. As per the doctors, the donor and recipient are doing well, and the donor has been discharged.

The doctors said that Guddi Devi of Bharatpur had chronic kidney disease and was on dialysis. Both the kidneys of Guddi had failed and transplant was the only option to save her. Finally, Guddi's mother, Buddho Devi decided to donate her kidney, but a kidney transplant had never been done on a person of this age, so the entire surgery was challenging.

Even administering anesthesia for surgery can be fatal at the age 84, but fortunately both the kidneys of Buddho Devi were in excellent condition, "said urologist and kidney transplant surgeon Dr. Neeraj Agarwal.

He said that the transplant was done on May 23 and the surgery lasted for about five hours. Buddho Devi looked very strong both physically and mentally.

“After the medical examination, when it was decided that she could donate the kidney, she said that nothing will happen to her and she will save her daughter. Her confidence was helped us to carry out this surgery,” said the doctor. Now, Buddho Devi has become the oldest kidney donor among SMS Hospital's 793 kidney transplants to date.
