Mumbai News: 'Colaba Jetty Will Only Benefit Contractors And Politicians,' Says Aaditya Thackeray, Extends Support To Residents’ Protest Against ₹229 Crore Project
Mumbai: The jetty will not serve any other purpose than helping the contractor and the politicians behind this, said Worli MLA and Yuva Sena president Aaditya Thackeray. On Wednesday, he met the residents of Colaba and extended his support to fight against the Rs 229 crore jetty being built near the Gateway of India.
Ever since the fisheries and port development minister Nitesh Rane laid the foundation stone for the construction of a VIP jetty near the Gateway of India in March, residents have been opposing the project. While two separate residents’ groups have already moved the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court against the proposed jetty, the residents have not been able to get much relaxation.
On Wednesday, the residents of Colaba and members of Clean and Heritage Colaba Residents’ Association (CHCRA) met Thackeray at Shivalaya Bungalow near Mantralaya to discuss the Colaba jetty project, the work for which has already started. While the residents updated him about the issue and the status of the petitions filed in the High Court and the Supreme Court, he extended his support to the residents in this matter.
The legislator alleged that the development will only benefit the contractors and the politicians behind the project. He also alleged that the residents have been facing insult and injury from the BJP government’s policy.
