CEC Kargil meets Union Minister Rijiju, seeks support for Ladakh’s development

KARGIL, May 29: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, met Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss key developmental issues concerning Ladakh.
During the meeting, Dr Jaffer raised several important matters, especially related to the welfare of minorities and students from the Union Territory.
He stressed the need for more opportunities for Ladakhi students in higher education institutions across the country.
The CEC also urged the Union Minister to explore dedicated minority welfare schemes that could benefit students from Ladakh. He further requested a special package for Muharram, keeping in view the unique cultural and religious needs of the region.
Dr Jaffer also highlighted various ongoing and proposed developmental initiatives in Ladakh.
The Union Minister gave a patient hearing and assured that the concerns raised would be addressed at the appropriate level.
On the occasion, Dr Jaffer extended a formal invitation to the Minister to attend the Suru Valley Festival 2025, scheduled for July 14 and 15.
The Minister accepted the invitation and expressed his willingness to visit Ladakh to review developmental projects on the ground.
