'Kuch Bounce Nahi Hoga': Surveen Chawla Reveals She Was Asked To Gain Weight For South Films

Actress Surveen Chawla, known for shows and films like Sacred Games, Hate Story 2, Rana Naidu, and others, revealed that she was asked to put on weight when she decided to try her hand in the south film industry. The actress revealed how women and their bodies were objectified in both south and Hindi film industry, and how it is a menace even today.

During a conversation with Hauterrfly, Surveen shared, "You go down south, you need to put on weight. You come back, you need to lose weight. For south, you're very slim, very thin, because bosoms nahi honge... Kuch hilega nahi, kuch bounce nahi karega..."

"All of this still persists, but it happens in a very sophisticated manner. In my time, there was no sophistication. Everything was said to my face, so I gave it back to them in the same manner," she added.

During the interview, Surveen also recalled how actors were treated like cattle when she worked in the television industry. "It happened when I was working with this director in Kahiin Toh Hoga. A lot of women had a problem working with him. He used to treat everyone like cattle. But he was Balaji Telefilms' favourite," she shared.

"I might get lot of flak for saying this out loud because they gave me a break, but I don't appreciate it. You don't own anybody. You're paying them because they are doing a job, beyond that, you don't own them," she stated.

Surveen also revealed that she had to miss out on a lot of films in her initial days because filmmakers thought she was "overexposed" due to her work on television.

Surveen Chawla worked in a number of daily soaps, including Kahiin To Hoga, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kaajjal, Haq Se, and others, before making a shift to Bollywood and OTT.

She shot to fame with her role in Sacred Games, and she has also been a part of Ugly, Creature 3D, Hate Story 2, Parched, Rana Naidu, Decoupled, and her latest show is Criminal Justice Season 4.
