Vaishnavi Hagawane Suicide Case: Nilesh Chavan Nabbed By Pimpri-Chinchwad Police At Nepal Border; Know Crime Record Of Hagawane Family’s Friend

Nilesh Chavan, who had been on the run in a case related with the Vaishnavi Hagawane suicide case, was arrested by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police near the Nepal border on Friday.

He is known to be a close associate of the Hagawane family and has a criminal background.

He was on the run after he was booked for allegedly threatening the parents of Vaishnavi Hagawane, whose death died by suicide on May 16.

He had allegedly threatened Vaishnavi's maternal family members when they went to take Vaishnavi's baby after her death.

Vaishnavi Hagawane Suicide Case

Vaishnavi hanged herself at her marital home in Bavdhan in Pimpri-Chinchwad town of Pune district in western Maharashtra on May 16. Her family has alleged she was harassed for dowry, including a demand for Rs 2 crore to purchase land, by Rajendra Hagawane and his relatives.

On May 23, Rajendra Hagawane and his son Sushil were taken into custody from the Swargate area while attempting to flee the city.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against her husband Shashank, mother-in-law Lata Rajendra Hagawane, Rajendra Hagawane, sister-in-law Karishma, and brother-in-law Sushil under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections concerning abetment to suicide and domestic violence, police said.

Police had already arrested Vasihnavi's the husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law of the victim, while Rajendra and Sushil were on the run.

Who is Nilesh Chavan?

When the Kaspate family demanded custody of the baby, he refused to give it up. It has been revealed that Nilesh Chavan is a friend of Vaishnavi's sister-in-law, Karishma Hagawane.

And now, a case has also been registered against Nilesh Chavan for threatening Vaishnavi's family members who came to the same police station to demand her baby.

Nilesh Chavan got married on June 3, 2018. In January 2019, Nilesh Chavan’s wife suspected that something suspicious was attached to the ceiling fan in their bedroom. When she asked Nilesh about it, he gave vague answers. However, the next month, in February, Nilesh’s wife again suspected that something suspicious was attached to the air conditioner in the house. That time too, she asked Nilesh about it, but even then he gave a vague answer without saying anything. Finally, one day, when Nilesh’s wife opened his laptop, she found a video of their sexual act recorded in it with the help of a spy camera.

Also, his wife found videos of Nilesh with some other girls on his laptop. When Nilesh’s wife asked for an answer, he threatened her with a knife in the house and tried to strangle her and allegedly forced her. After all this, Nilesh’s wife informed Nilesh’s parents and other family members about this. But far from helping, her in-laws started harassing her. After that, Nilesh continued to harass his wife for the next several months. Finally, Nilesh’s wife decided to leave the house. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against Nilesh and his relatives on June 14, 2022. His anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Pune Sessions Court, but even after that, the Warje police did not arrest him. Finally, the Mumbai High Court granted him anticipatory bail. Nilesh Chavan has construction business and is also involved in the business of Poklen machines. Nilesh Chavan is a friend of Shashank Hagawane’s sister, Karishma Hagawane. He was often involved in family disputes between Shashank and Vaishnavi. Nilesh Chavan’s father has three flats in the Karvenagar area.
