The dignitaries present at the event were Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburbs Ashish Shelar, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Asif Bhamla from Bhamla Foundation, Vijay Karia from Ravin Group and Bollywood celebrities like Ajay Devgan, Sharwari Wagh, Imtiaz Ali and Rohit Shetty were present.

Speaking at the event, Gagrani said that climate change and the environment are touching our everyday lives and it is a public issue, especially concerning the next generation.

“It is a reciprocal issue, and only making plans and rules will not address the problems. Whatever efforts BMC is taking to improve the city’s environment and reach it to every citizen of Mumbai, a big amount of sensitisation and participation of all stakeholders is required.”

Gagrani thanked the initiative taken by the Bhamla Foundation and the participation of personalities like Devgan, who can take the message to the masses and sensitise them.

Minister Shelar acknowledged the importance of environmental safety along with infrastructural development. The dignitaries will come together again on June 5, morning at Carter Road to cycle and spread the message of Tik Tik Plastic, an official from Bhamla Foundation said.

Minister Shelar highlighted that BMC is the only municipal corporation in the country which publishes an annual environmental report, which includes various environmental activities implemented, water and air quality inspections.

"The participation of citizens is very important for environmental awareness. In the coming days, the priority will be to create as many open spaces as possible in Mumbai," the minister said.
