Guru Arjan Dev’s Shaheedi Purb observed with devotion
The Shaheedi Purb (martyrdom day) of Guru Arjan Dev was observed in Sikh religious traditions in the holy city on Friday. On this occasion, chabeel of sweetened water was distributed and langars were organised at different places of the city.
Devotees paid obeisance at the Golden Temple and at the historic Gurdwara Ramsar, where the fifth Sikh Guru had edited the Guru Granth Sahib and wrote Sukhmani Sahib. They took a holy dip in the Amrit Sarovar of the Golden Temple and listened to the recitation of Gurbani in the holy precincts of the Sikh shrines.
The martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev was observed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) at Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib. The Bhog of Akhand Path was offered on the occasion, after which divine hymns were sung by Raagi Jathas. The sangat was appealed to take inspiration from the life history of the Guru Sahib and follow his Bani.
During a religious programme, Dhadi, Kavishar and Pracharak Jathas sung Gur-Itihas (history of Sikh Gurus), poems related to the Guru Sahib were presented by the Kavishari Jathas.
Stalls of langar and chabeel of sweetened water were organized at almost every nook and corner of the city. Devotees distributed eatables and water among sangat.
