3 held in Rewari for betting on IPL match
In a major crackdown on illegal betting, the Jagan Gate police today arrested three individuals for allegedly running a betting operation on the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings. The accused were arrested from the Topchiwara area of Rewari, where they were caught red-handed while betting.
The accused were identified as Rajkumar from Topchiwara, Sandesh, alias Sheru, from Bas Sitab Rai, and Pawan Kumar, alias Bholu, from Balluwara. During raid, the police recovered one laptop, 10 mobile phones, Rs 8,400 in cash and two scooters used in the betting operation.
A spokesman said on the night of May 29, the police received a tip-off that Rajkumar was running a betting racket from his residence.
The informer also revealed that Sandesh, Pawan and Ashish Gaur were actively placing bets on the ongoing IPL match.
Acting swiftly, the police formed a raiding team and conducted a search at Rajkumar’s residence. Rajkumar and Sandesh were caught betting in an upstairs room, while Pawan was apprehended on the rooftop during the raid. The fourth suspect, Ashish, had left the spot shortly before the police arrived. He is presently on the run.
Following raid, a case against the accused was registered under the Public Gambling Act at the Rewari city police station. The spokesman said efforts were on to arrest the remaining accused.
