Hoax bomb threat at Haryana Secretariat, CM Saini’s residence in Chandigarh

A bomb threat received via email on Friday afternoon sent shockwaves through Chandigarh’s high-security zone, prompting the immediate evacuation of the Haryana Civil Secretariat and the official residence of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The alert, flagged by the Haryana Criminal Investigation Department (CID), warned of a possible bomb blast and even suggested a fidayeen (suicide) attack. In response, a large-scale security operation was launched involving the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Chandigarh Police, and specialised bomb disposal squads from the Chandigarh and Haryana Police. The entire area around the Secretariat and the Chief Minister’s residence was cordoned off. For several hours, sniffer dogs and bomb detection teams scoured the buildings but no explosive device was found, following which the threat was confirmed to be a hoax. The police are investigating the On May 22, an email warning had led to the temporary evacuation of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. That too had proved to be a false alarm.
