Books instil values, shape responsible citizens: DGP

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur inaugurated the 18th Sardar Patel Police Library at Police Lines in Kaithal on Thursday, calling it a revolutionary step toward a “knowledge renaissance” across the state’s police lines. Currently, 18 such libraries are operational across Haryana, with five more under construction in Nuh, Jhajjar, Hisar, Rewari and Palwal. The 19th library in Jind is ready for inauguration. DGP Kapur emphasised the power of books in shaping character and instilling moral courage in the youth. “Books give children the courage to call wrong as wrong. They instil values and shape responsible citizens,” he said. Highlighting the broader vision behind this initiative, Kapur said libraries were being established in all Police Lines across Haryana to ensure access to modern knowledge resources. He also proposed organising inter-school competitions among DAV Police Public Schools to promote holistic development, including sports participation. The DGP recommended the installation of Chakravyuh structures in all government and private schools to promote strategic thinking and physical fitness among students. He said these libraries were not just buildings, but living ideas that served as pillars of welfare for police families. Kapur also led a tree plantation drive on the police campus to promote environmental awareness. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Karnal Range, M Ravi Kiran, described the library as a convergence of modern knowledge, faith and culture. Inspector General (Enforcement) Kuldeep Yadav lauded the role of books in preserving civilisation. Kaithal Superintendent of Police Astha Modi said the library had been established in a densely populated area near the Kaithal Police Lines, which housed around 200 police quarters with over 850 residents. With 1,322 police personnel stationed in Kaithal, the library was expected to serve as an ideal knowledge hub for police families and surrounding communities, Modi added. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the Sardar Patel Police Library includes nine computers, a fully air-conditioned reading room for 40 people, an LED screen and access to over 25,000 e-books provided by the Worldreader Organisation. Books are available in Hindi, English and Punjabi, covering a range of topics including general knowledge, history, science, literature and exam preparation.
