Kurukshetra University celebrates Hindi Journalism Day
The Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology (IMCMT) of the Kurukshetra University on Friday organised and event to mark Hindi Journalism Day at the university’s mini auditorium. A state-level documentary award ceremony was also held at the event.
Vivek Chawla, Director, Youth and Cultural Affairs, Kurukshetra University, as the chief guest, said the youth and cultural affairs department was committed to providing a platform for students to showcase their talents.
Chawla urged students to focus on improving their writing and speaking styles to better utilise their creativity.
IMCMT Director Maha Singh Poonia said the documentary competition, jointly organised by the Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs and the media institute, witnessed the participation of over 22 teams representing various colleges and universities across the state.
Through the competition, the university aimed to provide students with a platform to showcase their talents in documentary filmmaking, helping them aspire to become future directors, actors, photographers or scriptwriters, he added.
Congratulating the winners, Poonia announced that the state-level documentary competition would now be an annual event, and that the prize money would be increased in future.
Poonia highlighted the significance of May 30, celebrated as Hindi Journalism Day in India.
On this day in 1826, the first Hindi newspaper, ‘Udant Martand’, was published in Kolkata by Jugal Kishore Shukla, laying the foundation for Hindi journalism, he said.
