MLA inaugurates Maharaj Aroot Chowk in Sonepat
MLA Nikhil Madan and Mayor Rajiv Jain on Friday inaugurated Maharaj Aroot Chowk near the Sector 27 police station here.
Several dignitaries from Sonepat’s Punjabi community attended the event.
Madan said, during his tenure as Mayor, the Rashriya Punjabi Mahasabha and many organisations associated with the Punjabi community of Sonepat had submitted a memorandum to him for the construction of the chowk.
Taking cognisance of this, he had passed a proposal for the construction of Maharaj Aroot Chowk in the General House meeting of the municipal corporation.
He expressed happiness over the completion, and inauguration, of the chowk, stating that it was a moment of pride for the entire 36 biradari and the Punjabi community.
“Lord Aroot Maharaj is believed to be a descendant of King Luv, son of Lord Rama. It is narrated in history that with the blessings of Lord Parashuram, Aroot Maharaj established a grand kingdom named Aroor Kot on the banks of the Indus,” Madan said.
Maharaj Aroot was a just ruler during whose reign people, notably the poor, were heard, he added, stating that it was a great privilege for him to dedicate the chowk to the great Maharaj Aroot.
He, and Mayor Rajiv Jain extended their best wishes to the entire Punjabi community.
