Midnight blaze destroys cowshed
A major fire broke out late at night in the village of Kalni, under the Taragarh panchayat of Bhattiyat sub-division in Chamba district, destroying a cowshed shared by three families.
Amar Nath, the head of the household, reported that he discovered the fire around 12:30 am. Upon noticing the flames, the families rescued the livestock while the villagers rushed to the spot to douse the flames.
A team of firefighters and Home Guard Jawans also rushed to the spot. It took more than four hours to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the residential houses. Amar Nath said the cowshed contained stock of fodder and timber, all of which were reduced to ashes.
Upon learning of the incident, the Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania directed the local administration to provide immediate assistance to the affected families. The Revenue Department granted Rs 5,000 each as interim relief to the three affected families. Officials also assured that all possible help would be extended for the reconstruction of the destroyed cowshed.
