Mumbai Crime: Malvani Police Busts Counterfeit Currency Racket, Arrest 2, Seize ₹8.5 Lakh Fake Notes
Mumbai: Malvani police have arrested two members of a gang involved in printing counterfeit currency and seized fake notes worth Rs 8.5 lakh along with materials used to produce them. The police suspect an interstate gang's involvement and are trying to identify the ringleader.
Acting on a tip-off that counterfeit notes were being brought from Marve in Malad West, a police team intercepted a blue car on Marve Beach Road around 9pm on Thursday. Inside the car, officers found 1,740 fake Rs 500 notes and printing equipment.
The arrested accused, Sampath Anjapalli, 46, and Rahimpasha Sheikh, 30, hail from Telangana. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and both have been taken into custody.
The operation was carried out by a team led by senior inspector Shailendra Nagarkar and Crime Inspector Jeevan Bhatukale.
