‘Kuch hilega nahi, chest flat hai…’ This actress was rejected for being ‘too thin’, makes SHOCKING revelations, name is…, last film was…
Surveen Chawla has carved a special place for herself in the Indian film industry. Known for notable work in shows and films like Sacred Games, Hate Story 2, Rana Naidu, and others, the actress has impressed masses with her work across all mediums of entertainment. Recently, Surveen revealed how at the beginning of her career, she decided to venture into South cinema. She was rejected for being too thin, and was asked to gain weight for South films.
In a conversation with Hauterrfly, the actress was asked if one needs to put weight to work in South cinema, Surveen responded, “Yes, I was told you are too thin, slim because you won’t have bosoms. Kuch hilega nahi (Nothing will jiggle), nothing will bounce. Now it’s done a little more sophisticatedly. In my time, they were not so sophisticated. They told me to my face, so I gave it back to their face.”
The actress added, “You go down South, you need to put on weight; you come back here (to Hindi cinema), you need to lose weight.”
Surveen also featured in popular television shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kahin To Hoga, and Kaajjal before making her Bollywood debut with the film Hum Tum Shabana in 2011. She also recalled working in the TV industry and how actors were treated like cattle. “It happened when I was working with this director in Kahiin Toh Hoga. A lot of women had a problem working with him. He used to treat everyone like cattle. But he was Balaji Telefilms’ favourite,” she shared.
Surveen stated, “I might get lot of flak for saying this out loud because they gave me a break, but I don’t appreciate it. You don’t own anybody. You’re paying them because they are doing a job, beyond that, you don’t own them.” She revealed that she had to let go of lot of films as the directors thought she was ‘overexposed’ due to her work on television.
Meanwhile, Surveen Chawla was most recently seen in the fourth season of Criminal Justice. Helmed by Rohan Sippy, the show also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Asha Negi, Shweta Basu Prasad, Mita Vashisht, and Zeeshan Ayyub, among others, in pivotal roles.
