Car Buried Under Landslide Debris In Arunachal Pradesh, 7 Dead
At least seven people were killed after a major landslide buried their car in debris in Arunachal Pradesh's East Kameng district.
The incident took place on National Highway 13, near Bana, while the car was on its way from Bana to the district headquarters, Seppa.
Heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to flash floods and landslides in several districts of the state severely disrupting normal life, officials said on Saturday.
The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, struck late last night, causing a section of the hillside to collapse onto the vehicle, engulfing it in rocks and soil. The tragedy came to light only this morning when authorities discovered the vehicle trapped under the debris. All seven occupants of the vehicle are reported deceased, though their identities have yet to be confirmed.
The Arunachal Pradesh government had issued an advisory last week, urging residents to avoid nighttime travel due to incessant heavy rains across the state. The ongoing downpour has increased the risk of landslides, particularly in hilly regions like East Kameng, disrupting roads and endangering lives.
Rescue operations are underway, but challenging weather conditions are hampering efforts.
