Inspired By Devi Ahilyabai, PM Modi Announces 'Nari Devi Bhava,' As Govt's New Governance Model During Women Empowerment Event In Bhopal
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to the idol of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar on her 300th birth anniversary during a mega women empowerment event in Bhopal on Saturday. Governor Mangubhai Patel, CM Mohan Yadav and BJP state chief VD Sharma attended the occasion.
PM released a commemorative Rs 300 coin to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai-- the queen of Malwa. He also inaugurated airports in Datia and Satna and flagged off Indore Metro.

PM Praises Ahilyabai's Governance Model
Addressing the public, he hailed Ahilyabai as the epitome of determination and dedication-- the two weapons that have the power to turn even the most difficult situations into opportunities. "We have heard Devi Ahilya would rule the kingdom, always carrying a Shivlinga in one hand. She has treated public service as service to God. When our temples were attacked, our Lokmata Ahilyabai took responsibility to restore the damaged temples, like famous-- Kashi Vishwanath."
He praised Ahilyabai's governance model when poor and underprivileged sections were given priority. She encouraged work in handlooms, agriculture, and cotton and spice sectors to boost employment.
Stating an example from Devi Ahilya's governance model, PM Modi asked farmers to follow the age-old practice of crop rotation and not rely on sole crops like-- rice or sugarcane.
'Nari Devo Bhava is our new model'
PM Modi lauded Devi Ahilya's works to promote widow remarriage and women's financial rights and introduced an all-women army centuries ago.
He stated that his government is working on the same lines. "Nari Devo Bhava is our new model. Our government is constantly working to ensure women get their rights in property. Tap water at households and toilets in rural areas have improved the lives of women. Women can now avail themselves of free medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh under the Ayushman Scheme.
He further listed women's welfare programmes like 'Bank Sakhiya, Namo Drone Yojana, and Lakhpati Didi' to emphasise the central government's vision to empower power.
Over 100 women were part of the successful Chandrayaan-3, the Prime Minister said, encouraging more women to take up active roles in the technological sector and decision-making.
