Indore's transport history: Indore's railway roots date back over 150 years, when the Holkar rulers initiated the Indore-Khandwa rail line in 1870 at a cost of ₹1 crore - a massive expenditure for that era.

First long-distance train: 5 years later, in 1876, the first train began rolling. In 1956, Indore witnessed its first long-distance train to Bilaspur.

Further advancements: Until the 1980s, Indore relied on a government-operated city bus system. The primary modes of public transport included minibuses (locally called Nagar Sevas), tempos, and auto-rickshaws.

AICTSL: 25 years later, Atal Indore City Transport Services Limited (ICTSL) was established in 2005 to revamp city bus services and provide a more organized, efficient system

BRTS: And then came, the most successful and efficient transport system In Indore with dedicated corridors and modern buses, preferred by a particular group in the city.

And today in 2025, Indore has officially became a 'Metro city.'
