NIA Charges Three Maoist Operatives in Jharkhand Terror Conspiracy Case
In a significant development on Friday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed charges against three individuals involved in a 2023 conspiracy linked to the banned CPI(Maoist) group in Jharkhand.
The latest chargesheet, submitted to the NIA Special Court in Ranchi, includes additional offenses against Krishna Hansda, previously charged by Jharkhand Police. Hansda, also known as Saurav Da or Avinash Da, has now been accused under multiple provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act), 1967, and the Arms Act, 1959. A senior figure in the CPI(Maoist), he served as a Regional Committee Member of the terror outfit.
Charges Against Two Other Maoist Operatives
Abhijit Korah, a key armed cadre of the CPI(Maoist), is facing a slew of charges, including conspiracy, extortion, and acts of terrorism. The NIA's chargesheet includes provisions such as Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 121A (waging war against the state) under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with various sections of the UA(P) Act.
Similarly, Ramdayal Mahto, also known as Nilesh Da or Bachchan Da, has been implicated in the same charges. Mahto, a member of the Special Area Committee (SAC) of CPI(Maoist), faces multiple sections under the IPC and the UA(P) Act related to terrorism and unlawful activities.
Extortion, Armed Intimidation
The three accused individuals were actively involved in a larger conspiracy orchestrated by the CPI(Maoist). Their criminal activities primarily centered around extortion, armed intimidation, and forced recruitment in the Parasnath area of Giridih district, Jharkhand. Authorities believe their actions were part of a coordinated effort to destabilize the region.
The case dates back to January 2023, when Krishna Hansda was arrested by local police in the Lucio Forest area, Dumri PS, Giridih. Authorities found him in possession of levy money, a 7.65 mm pistol, and several incriminating documents. Following his arrest, the police filed an FIR, which led to charges against Hansda, Korah, Mahto, and several others.
NIA Takes Over Investigation
In June 2023, the NIA took over the investigation, re-registering the case. The agency has since been pursuing further investigations into the larger conspiracy, working to uncover the full extent of the Maoist group's operations in the region.
As the investigation continues, the NIA is determined to bring all responsible individuals to justice and dismantle the network behind this deadly terror conspiracy.
