Who is India’s first test tube baby? The doctor who brought her into this world died by…, it happened because…

New Delhi: It is said that the joy of having children is the greatest for parents, but before 1978, there were many people in the country who could not become parents despite all efforts. For those people, Kolkata’s Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay conducted a test that was a blessing for women who could never become mothers. It was the test tube baby technique. Today, although test tube baby is an everyday term or rather can be said to be a very simple process of becoming a mother, in 1978, there was nothing like that.

The doctor who brought this technology to the country had to die by suicide because of it. Now you must be wondering why? Let us explain to you why it happened.

During the time when Dr Subhash Mukhopadhyay was conducting trials for test tube babies, no one in the country was even thinking about it. When he announced his trials, even other doctors were not ready to accept it. In fact, the government also refused to acknowledge his achievement. Consequently, Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay became a subject of ridicule throughout the medical field and the entire country. Unable to bear the mockery of his achievement, the doctor died by suicide on June 19, 1981. In this way, his miracle became the reason for his death.

On August 6, 1986, a girl was born in India with the help of a test tube. She was named Harsha. Harsha came to be known as the country’s first test tube baby, and Dr. TC Anand Kumar was credited with delivering the first test tube baby. However, Dr. Anand Kumar chose to credit Dr Mukhopadhyay instead of taking the credit himself.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay had documented all his research in a diary. Mukhopadhyay’s wife handed over all the research documents to Dr. Anand, who then honestly acknowledged that it was Dr. Mukhopadhyay who had delivered the country’s first test tube baby. Eventually, Dr. Mukhopadhyay’s claim received international recognition.

The name of India’s first test tube baby is Kanupriya Agrawal. Kanupriya is from Pune. When she was born, she was named Durga at that time. It is to be noted that Kanupriya is quite healthy and she is also the mother of a 10-year-old child.
