Key accused held in grenade attack on Mahmoodpur police post in Kaithal

Kaithal police have arrested another person in connection with the grenade attack on the Azimgarh police ‘naka’ under the Mahmoodpur police post, located on the Haryana-Punjab border in the district. The explosion occurred in the wee hours of April 6. The accused, identified as Hardik, a resident of Yamunanagar, was brought to Kaithal on a production warrant from Kapurthala jail for further interrogation. A minor had already been arrested in this case, who during interrogation revealed that Hardik played a key role in planning and executing the attack, said Kuldeep Beniwal, DSP, Guhla. Hardik was in jail in connection with a separate grenade attack on a YouTuber’s residence in Jalandhar, the DSP added. “We brought him on a production warrant on Saturday and produced him before the court, from where he was sent to four-day police remand,” he said. As per the police, some unidentified persons hurled a grenade at the police ‘naka’, after which a joint team of Kaithal and Punjab police began investigating the incident. The pro-Khalistan terrorist group, Babbar Khalsa, later claimed responsibility for the incident through a post on social media. The joint investigation team found traces indicating that a mid-air explosion had occurred. Kaithal police registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, along with relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
