Gang of burglars busted in Panchkula, five minors among seven held

The police today claimed to have busted a gang of thieves with the arrest of two persons and detention of five juveniles. Jewellery worth several lakhs, cash and other valuable items were recovered from them. The arrests were made during an investigation into a complaint by Ajit, a resident of Sector 12, who had stated that he had found his house burgled upon returning home from a trip last month. He reported valuables, including cash, jewellery and mobile phones, stolen. A case was registered at the Sector 5 police station. On May 24, under the supervision of ACP (Crime) Arvind Kamboj and SI Yudhveer Singh, the police arrested Rakesh, 19, and Sunil, 20, from near the cremation ground in Sector 20. Both hail from Uttar Pradesh and were residing in Punjab. They were produced in court, which sent them to seven-day police remand. Rakesh, the prime accused, already had a theft case registered against him in Panchkula in 2022. He also faces a murder case in Zirakpur and two theft cases in Uttar Pradesh. On their revelations, two juveniles were apprehended and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board on May 29. They were subsequently sent to the Observation Home in Ambala. Three more minors were apprehended today, and some stolen goods were recovered from them. They have also been sent to the Ambala Observation Home. On the suspects’ disclosure during interrogation, the police recovered a large quantity of stolen items, including gold and silver jewellery, utensils, two high-end mobile phones, an LED TV, household items and around Rs 2 lakh in cash. The motorcycle used in the crimes was also impounded. The investigation revealed that the gang would conduct a recce during the day before committing theft. So far, the police have solved four theft cases registered after two incidents each were reported from Sectors 12 and 21.
