Food Review: Blondie In Khar West Serves Coffee, Croissants & Dosas You’ve Never Tasted Before
Natasha Hemani’s passion for coffee inspired her to start something that ensured a good coffee, a good sandwich and a good dosa-idli under one roof. She also has matcha expressions in Blondie, all curated by her. “I wanted all things I love in one place so that I could share them with the world,” said Natasha.
I start with an Aeropress made coffee that’s aged in a whiskey cask. Starts with hints of vanilla and finishes with whiskey taste. Best had black if you love black coffee, to enjoy the flavours. Truffle Mushroom Croissant that follows is quite big, fluffy, and flaky. Stuffed with sautéed mushrooms, cream cheese, microgreens and finished with a truffle oil drizzle. The croissant is served topped with a generous amount of parmesan shavings. Chicken lovers who don’t mind a little spice in life should try the Smash Chicken burger in a brioche bun. Crispy chicken patty with slaw, spicy mayo and pickles.
Black Bean Soba
Benne Dosas and the Blondie Speciality Coffees intrigue me, especially the Prawn Thecha Benne Dosa. So, I opt for that as my next course. Prawns tossed in green chilly thecha, wrapped in a benne served with three chutneys. Subtly spiced. Strongly recommended is the BBQ Jackfruit Benne Dosa. Spicy, tangy jackfruit sabzi is wrapped by a benne dosa. The flavours are deliciously matched and leave you wanting more. Their Keema Matar benne is tasty as the garam masala doesn’t overpower any taste but keeps it balanced. However, it is not a keema, but chunks of mutton wrapped in a benne. They shouldn’t call it keema. Eat the dosas with hand. They give you wet wipes before and after. All dosas are perfectly made and served with a dollop of white butter as expected.
Dreamy's Mores Matcha
Thatte Idli is a must if you are a fan. Fluffy, flat big idli that’s really tasty. The garlic podi with it is also delicious. However, the sambar is different ball game. Too watery and tasteless. They should really do something about it.
Hot Cookie Dough Croissant
Paneer Slaw BurgerBlondie Sunrise is a layered iced coffee. Espresso, orange juice, in-house orange marmalade. The tang of juice and texture of marmalade is refreshing. It is a good company for the Caprese Croissant that has mozzarella cheese and tomatoes inside a super flaky croissant. Bloom Brew Tonic, another iced coffee, has espresso, hibiscus syrup and is topped with grapefruit tonic. The combination is tastefully mesmerising. The hibiscus cuts the bitterness of espresso and adds hint of floral tones to the coffee and the grapefruit tonic enhances the body.
Mango Matcha
Turkish EggsThey also have a few bowls. Asian Chilly Garlic Bowl (choice of chicken or tofu) is recommended. Quite a big portion, it is a delicious full meal in itself.
Podi BenneThey have a variety of pastries on the counter that you can choose from as dessert. However, I would recommend the Vegan Chocolate Cake, Hot Cookie Dough Croissant and the Triple Chocolate Ragi Uttapam.
Earth MatchaThe croissant and the chocolate cake are a delight for chocolate lovers. Especially the croissant. It’s a combination of cookie, cake and croissant. Textures and taste. The Triple Chocolate Ragi Uttapam is a ragi uttappam topped with loads of fruits, chocolate sauce, white chocolate, chocolate chips and cream. Delectably healthy.
Caramel Slice
Tiramisu Dream TinHowever, if you are not very hungry at the end of the meal, and don’t want to go for a dessert, then have the Dreamy S'mores Matcha Latte. Drink bhi, dessert bhi. The matcha late with marshmellows is a treat for any age.
