Students Among 12 Injured As Cab Crashes Into Bystanders In Pune: VIDEO
Twelve people were injured in Maharashtra's Pune on Saturday evening as a cab crashed into a group of bystanders near Bhave School in the Sadashiv Peth area of the city, said the police.
Among those injured in the crash included several students preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams, reported ANI.
The incident took place at around 7 pm near a tea shop in the locality as the vehicle lost control and hit people standing by the roadside. A video of the incident caught on a CCTV camera has gone viral on social media where a white cab was seen ramming the bystanders. Driver, Car Owner Arrested
Preliminary investigation has suggested that the driver, Jairam Mule, 27, a resident of Bibwewadi, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, said Nikhil Pingale, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1.
A co-passenger was also travelling in the vehicle at the time of the incident, as per the report.
Both the driver and the vehicle owner have been taken into custody and an FIR has been registered at Vishrambaug Police Station with further legal proceedings underway.
According to the eyewitnesses, several of the injured suffered leg fractures and all the injured people were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. No fatalities were reported.
"We are looking into all aspects of the case, including the possibility of drunk driving. Legal action has been initiated," DCP Pingale added.
