Mahela Jayawardene lauds Suryakumar Yadav despite injury concerns in IPL 2025 Eliminator, says ‘even if he has to bat on one leg…’

New Delhi: Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the IPL 2025 Eliminator match on May 30, in Mullanpur. Therefore, the Mumbai Indians team will now play Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 which will take place in Ahmedabad on June 1st. Playing their best in Qualifier 2 would ensure Mumbai Indians make it to the IPL 2025 Final against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mumbai Indians fans experienced a brief moment of concern during the Eliminator match when Suryakumar Yadav seemed injured. However, MI coach Mahela Jayawardene swiftly reassured them that the injury was not serious.

Jayawardene confirmed Suryakumar Yadav’s fitness and availability for future matches during a post-game press conference.

“As far as I know, there’s nothing serious. I haven’t heard anything from the physio. He’s fine. Even if he has to bat on one leg, he will play against Punjab,” Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.

Jayawardene allayed fitness concerns before the important game, stating the team is fit and prepared.

“We know it’s a tough schedule for us, but I think everyone’s healthy, everyone’s fit. And don’t worry about those little tightnesses. I haven’t heard anything from the physios. I’m pretty sure that even with one leg, these boys will be playing for us. Don’t worry,” he further stated.

Suryakumar Yadav’s quick score of 33 off just 20 balls helped Mumbai Indians post a big 228 total in the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans. He scored his 25th run in this battle, breaking the record for highest scores in a single IPL season. He scored 673 runs in 15 IPL matches for an average of 67.30. Although he is second in the Orange Cap race, with two games left, he could surpass Sai Sudharsan if he scores 87 runs more.
