Heavy rain batters northeast India; road, rail transport affected in Assam

Heavy downpour continues to lash northeastern states, disrupting road transport and train services in the northeastern region. Close to a lakh persons have been affected by the incessant rain in the region and over 20 persons died in rain-related incidents in the northeastern states.
In Assam, Over 78,000 residents have been affected in more than 15 districts in the state. As per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 25 relief camps have been opened in the state. The Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an orange bulletin for Assam as 10 major rivers, including the Brahmaputra and Barak, were flowing above danger level.
As per the CWC bulletin, Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level in Dibrugarh and Nematighat, Dhaleswari at Gharmura (Hailakandi), Rukni at Dholai (Cachar), Katakhal at Matijuri (Hailakandi), Barak at Badarpur Ghat (Sribhumi), Buridehing at Margherita (Tinsukia), Kushiyara in Sribhumi, Dhansiri at Numaligarh (Golaghat) and Kopili at Kampur (Nagaon), PTI reported.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that the state was facing an "abnormal situation" due to incessant downpour.
In Tripura, state's capital Agartala witnessed a record rainfall of around 200 mm in just three hours. The incessant rain led to waterlogging in several areas in Agartala Municipal Corporation areas. According to authorities, over 5,000 city dwellers have taken shelter in 27 relief camps. A man died after he fell into a manhole in Agartala.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said in a Facebook post, "Due to incessant rain over the past two days, around 1,300 families have taken shelter in relief camps in West Tripura district. The government is keeping a close eye on the situation. The district administration, NDRF, SDRF, civil volunteers and different agencies have been deployed to help the marooned people."
In Manipur, over 800 houses got damaged in the incessant rain. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited several inundated areas of Imphal town and assessed the situation. According to Manipur authorities, at least 3802 people have been affected by the rain in 48 hours.
"Altogether 3,275 localities or villages have been hit by heavy rain till Saturday evening. Two persons have also been injured. The death of 64 animals has been reported. Overall, 12 landslides occurred across the state so far, he said," a senior official told PTI.
