Thane Tragedy: School Director Arrested After Wall Collapse Kills 11-Year-Old In Titwala; Two Other Children Injured

In connection with the death of an 11-year-old boy and injuries to two others after a school compound wall collapsed, the director of the school was arrested on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as Subarav Babasaheb Kharade, the director of KBK International School located in Balyani village in Titwala, under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Taluka Police Station. According to the police, Kharade was produced in court and remanded to police custody until June 3 for further investigation.

Investigation Officer Mudgan from Kalyan Taluka Police Station stated, “During the investigation, it was learned that locals had made oral complaints about the wall’s condition, but the school did not pay heed. We have recorded the statements of local residents. The two injured children are out of danger and are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.”

The incident occurred on Friday evening in the Balyani slum area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). The three children, all residents of Krupa Chawl, were playing in a lane adjacent to the school when the wall—reportedly in a dilapidated condition—collapsed, according to KDMC officials.

The deceased has been identified as Ansh Kumar Singh (11), while the injured children are Abhishek Sahani (10) and Soeb Shaikh (6), all from Krupa Chawl in Balyani.

Locals rushed to the site after hearing the loud thud of the collapsing wall and rescued the children. They were initially taken to a private hospital on a two-wheeler, from where doctors referred them to Rukmini Bai Hospital in Kalyan. One child succumbed to injuries, while the other two received treatment—one at Rukmini Bai Hospital and the other at a private facility.
