Royal Enfield, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto posted monthly sales numbers | RE/Hero/Bajaj
Major auto heavyweights posted their May 2025 sales numbers on Monday. Among them, rivals Hero MotoCorp and Bajaj Auto went head to head, while Royal Enfield saw a major jump due to the number of models on offer.
Two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp led the back with more than 5 lakh vehicles sold in May 2025. For the month, it sold 5,07,701 units, up 2 per cent year-on-year from 4,98,123 units in May last year.
Among them, domestic dispatches to dealers were 4,88,997 units vs the year-ago figure of 4,79,450 units. Exports improved to 18,704 units in May 2025 from last year’s 18,673 units.
While rival Bajaj Auto saw an 8 per cent jump year-on-year in total sales, the 3,84,621 units it sold in May 2025 were still behind that of Hero MotoCorp. Moreover, domestic sales—which included commercial vehicles, many of them not being two-wheelers—just marginally rose to 2,25,733 units in May 2025 vs 2,25,087 units in the year-ago period.
Exports came to the rescue here, with sales jumping by 22 per cent to 1,58,888 vehicles for the month.
While the two major two-wheeler brands gained from new products across the motorcycle and scooter categories, it was mid-size motorcycle maker Royal Enfield that saw major gains in May.
Total sales of the thumping two-wheeler maker soared 26 per cent to 89,429 units in May, with a 19 per cent jump in domestic sales of 75,820 vehicles. Exports skyrocketed by a massive 82 per cent to hit 13,609 units for the month. In May 2024, Royal Enfield exported 7,479 units.
Hyundai, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki post May sales
Apart from two-wheeler giants, major car makers also posted May sales. Hyundai Motor India saw its total sales slump 8 per cent year-on-year to 58,701 units on an 11 per cent slide in dispatches to domestic dealers of 43,861 units. This was marginally offset by exports rising to 14,840 units for the month vs 14,400 units in May 2024.
In contrast, Maruti Suzuki India saw a 3 per cent spike in total sales of 1,80,077 units in May 2025, helped by higher numbers posted for utility vehicles such as Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Jimny. This helped reduce the impact of sales slump in the mini segment (Alto, S-Presso) and compact cars such as Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and Wagon-R. Maruti Suzuki India’s total domestic passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers in May 2025 dipped 6 per cent to 1,35,962 vehicles.
Tata Motors, in comparison, saw a 9 per cent year-on-year dip in total sales of 70,187 units in May. Domestic sales slid 10 per cent to 67,429 units, and total passenger vehicle sales slumped 11 per cent to 42,040 units for the month.
