Roland Garros 2025: Carlos Alcaraz Displays Brilliant Sportsmanship, Relinquishes Point After Playing Illegal Shot; Watch Video

Spanish Tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, who is also the defending champion in the ongoing edition of French Open, showcased excellent sportsman spirit during his fourth-round game against Ben Shelton on June 1, Sunday. In a video shared by The Roland Garros on their official social media handle, the youngster refused to take the point for himself for the shot that he saw wasn't valid.

The incident occurred early in the second set of the contest when Shelton hit a passing shot, making it beyond Alcaraz's reach. Although the Spainard somehow managed to reach till the ball, he had thrown his racket to send it on the other side of the net. Although the referee had conceded the point to the 22-year-old, Alcaraz appealed to him that he wasn't holding the racket when it touched the ball.

Speaking after the match, Alcaraz suggested that the battle against Shelton had got to him after a point but was glad it didn't cost him the result. The 22-year-old stated, as quoted by BBC Sport:

"Honestly, today I fought against myself in the mind. I just tried to calm myself - in some moments I was mad. I was angry with myself, talking not good things. I'm happy that I didn't let that thought play against me. I tried to calm myself and tried to keep going."
