Search Operation Underway In J&K's Kathua After Locals Report Suspicious Activity

Security forces have launched a search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district following reports of suspicious activity near a forest area.

According to reports, the operation began after a civilian spotted three suspicious individuals in the Saladhi area of Hiranagar.

A joint search team is actively conducting operations, while security measures have been heightened across the region, including major transport routes.

Last week, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah relocated his entire ministerial cabinet and administrative staff to a resort in Baramulla district in northern Kashmir for discussions aimed at addressing rising tensions in the Valley. This move came just one day after a cabinet meeting was held at a resort in Pahalgam, in southern Kashmir.

In April this year, terrorists targeted tourists at the scenic Pahalgam resort, nestled in a lush valley surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Witnesses reported that the assailants separated male victims, questioned them about their religious affiliations, and executed them at point-blank range.

The brutal attack on 22 April claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were Hindu. Among the victims was a Kashmiri Muslim who worked as a horse-riding guide for tourists.

The perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre remain at large.
