When and why will it be demolished
For the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station, a part of it will be demolished in March next year. The company that took the tender for this work has started its preparation. In the budget for the year 2023, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had announced the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station. This year the tender for redevelopment has been issued. Soon a part of the station will be handed over to the company and it will start redevelopment work on it from March.
First of all, platforms 1 to 5 will be demolished
This redevelopment work will start from Paharganj side and it is targeted to be completed in a total of 45 months. The company will first develop platforms 1 to 5 and then 6 to 9. In the redevelopment, all 16 platforms and tracks will be built afresh along with new buildings on both sides of the station. Apart from this, a total of 7 flyovers will also be built around the station, so that there is no problem of jam.
Platforms will be ready in four phases
Railway sources said that first of all platform number 1 to 5 will be redeveloped. It will take about four months. In the second phase, platform number 6 to 9 will be developed. During this time, trains from platform number 10 to 16 will continue to run normally. In the third phase, work will be done on platform number 10 to 13, while in the fourth phase, work will be done on platform number 14 to 16. During this time, trains from platform number 1 to 9 will be restored from New Delhi.
Holding area will be built by October
The work of building a holding area to control the crowd at New Delhi Railway Station will also be completed by the coming month of October. This holding area being built towards Ajmeri Gate will be for passengers traveling on unreserved tickets. They will get a place to stay here and when the train arrives, they will be sent to the platform. This will help in controlling the crowd inside New Delhi station.
Where will the trains run from
Railway officials are planning to shift some trains from New Delhi Railway Station to other stations. For this, two new platforms have been prepared in Anand Vihar and three in Shakur Basti. Soon some trains going to Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir will be shifted to Shakur Basti, while trains going towards the east will be shifted to Anand Vihar. Gradually, trains running from New Delhi Railway Station will be shifted to other stations. Mainly trains of UP-Bihar and West Bengal route will be shifted to Anand Vihar Railway Station.
Trains going to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat etc. can be shifted to Hazrat Nizamuddin. Similarly, there is a plan to run trains of Rajasthan route from Delhi Cantt. Some trains can also be shifted to Old Delhi Railway Station and Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. Before shifting the trains, its prior information and list will be issued by the Railways.
