Chandigarh Marathon logo contest winner awaits confirmation
While the Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya along with top brass of the UT Administration unveiled the logo of the inaugural Chandigarh Marathon, the brain behind the logo’s design awaits credit and the announced prize money.
This March, the administration had invited entries for the logo’s design and tagline. The top three winners were to be awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively. While the logo was unveiled on May 31, Palwal resident Drishti Malik, who has designed the logo, only came to know about her triumph after the design was unveiled.
The young designer scrambled to look for an official confirmation on winning the contest — one that she had not received till the filing of this report. “I was expecting some credit on the logo, but I didn’t find any mention. Moreover, there’s no official confirmation from the department on whether I won the contest or if I will receive the prize money. A jury member just informed me about my art getting picked through a WhatsApp message,” said Drishti.
When contacted, the authority concerned in the sports department said the file has been put to award the winner. “Yes, she is the winner. And, the same has been put on record for approval of the prize money,” said the official.
The last date of submission of the art was March 17.
A vibrant message
Meanwhile, the logo features a bold yellow runner with “Chandigarh” symbolising motion, energy and the city’s active spirit, claimed Drishti. “The circular backdrop with white and yellow elements reflects vibrancy, clarity and determination. It captures the essence of the city united through health, fitness, and the mantra: Run, Rise, Repeat,” added the young designer, a bachelor of fine arts.
The UT Sports Department will likely organise the first-ever Chandigarh Marathon (full, half, 10km and 5km) featuring many national and international athletes in October. Work to finalise route map of the event has been conducted under the observation of experts.
