34 dead in Northeast floods: PM speaks to Assam, Sikkim CMs and Manipur Governor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Manipur Governor Ajay Bhalla regarding the situation caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in the region. He assured full assistance and support to state authorities in addressing the flood situation. Following the conversation, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Prime Minister called to inquire about the current flood situation in Assam. “I briefed him on how continuous rainfall in Assam and adjoining states has led to flooding and impacted many lives. I also apprised him of the relief operations undertaken by the state government,” Sarma said on X. The Assam Chief Minister added that PM Modi expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for the state’s relief and rehabilitation efforts. At least 34 people have died in the floods across the northeastern region. The floods have also triggered landslides, with the weather department predicting continued rain in the area.
