Dakota Johnson calls out Hollywood’s creative crisis: ‘It’s a mess’

Dakota Johnson is gearing up for the release of her film Materialists—a kind of “doctor becomes the patient” type story chronicling a matchmaker who must navigate the complexities of her own love life.
Johnson has made it big in Hollywood, appearing in films like The Social Network, Cha Cha Real Smooth, Peanut Butter Falcon, and the Fifty Shades franchise. But what is her opinion on the current state of the illustrious industry she thrives in? “It’s a mess,” she says.

During an interview on the show Hot Ones, as part of the promotional run for her film, Johnson simply remarks that the creative decisions are made by “people who don’t even really watch movies”.
“I think it’s hard when creative decisions are made by committee, and it’s hard when creative decisions are made by people who don’t even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what’s occurring a lot,” Johnson remarked.
Claiming that Hollywood clings to what they are familiar with, she added, “When something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake same things, but humans don’t want that. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don’t know, I guess it’s all just a bit of a mess right now, isn’t it?”
