Air India and IndiGo alert: Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, two of India’s major airlines, Air India and IndiGo, have issued public advisories regarding flight delays and diversions due to the closure of Iran’s airspace. Air India on Saturday said that the company has diverted several flights due to the closure of Iran’s airspace. The airline announced that some of its flights are now operating on longer, alternate routes to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members.
Air India issued alert
Air India shared an official update on social media platform ‘Air India’, stating, “Due to the emerging situation in Iran and parts of the Middle East, airspace has been closed and in view of the safety of our passengers, some of our flights are operating on alternate extended routes. We are trying our best to minimise any inconvenience caused to our passengers due to airspace closure. We would like to reiterate that at Air India, the safety of our passengers and crew members is of the highest priority.”
Iran closes airspace
This advisory comes at a time when the airspace in Iran and surrounding areas is closed following a series of regional tensions. This situation has significantly affected many international air routes that usually pass through Iran.
India’s largest airline IndiGo has also issued a statement through X, warning passengers about possible disruptions.
Passengers may face delays
The airline said in its advisory, “The airspace in Iran and its surrounding areas is still not available. Some flight routes may need to be adjusted, which may increase the duration of travel or cause delays.”
Check before leaving home
IndiGo has advised all passengers to check their flight status through the company’s website or mobile application before going to the airport. The airline assured that its customer service team is actively assisting passengers affected by these delays.
Both airlines are working to reroute affected flights through alternate air corridors, which may result in longer flight times. As a result, many services to and from Europe, the Gulf and Central Asia are experiencing delays ranging from 30 minutes to several hours.
