Lookout circular for key accused in social media influencer’s murder case
The Bathinda police have issued a lookout circular for Amritpal Singh Mehron, mastermind in the sensational murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, anticipating that he might try to leave the country.
The police also obtained two-day police remand of his two associates, Jaspreet Singh and Nimaratjeet Singh. They were arrested on Friday.
Amritpal’s social media accounts have been blocked. Sources said the cops had also questioned his family members.
Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal said the police were interrogating both accused and efforts were underway to arrest Amritpal. “A lookout circular has been issued, and several teams formed to trace him. Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the deceased is awaited. We have also asked the hospital authorities to provide a report on whether she was sexually assaulted,” said the SSP.
The decomposed body of Kanchan was found on the rear seat of her car parked outside Adesh University at Bhucho Kalan along the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway on Wednesday night.
Mehron had, on Friday, released a video claiming responsibility for the murder and warning other influencers against posting “vulgar” content on social media. The victim had reportedly been called from Ludhiana to Bathinda on the pretext of promoting a car showroom, and then murdered.
The incident has sparked a strong response, especially within the Sikh community and among Nihang groups. While some Nihangs, Sikh organisations and influencers have spoken in support of Amritpal, others have strongly condemned the brutal act, calling it an instance of vigilantism that cannot be justified under any circumstances. Social media users have also given mixed reaction.
Pak gangster backs him
Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti has extended support to Amritpal Singh Mehron. In a video posted on social media, Bhatti not only appreciated Mehron’s act, but also assured him of support.
Politicians maintain silence
Politicians in the state are maintaining a silence over the murder. Amritpal Singh Mehron had unsuccessfully contested the 2022 Assembly election from Tarn Taran as SAD (Amritsar) candidate. He faced some criminal cases in the past too. His two alleged associates are also Nihangs.
Threat calls continue
Another influencer, Preet Jatti, has come forward alleging that she received a threat call from an international number, warning her to stop uploading content online. In a video, Preet Jatti said, “I have a five-month-old baby. I am feeling so bad today. I only upload simple videos and don’t promote anything wrong. I don’t know who is calling me. I had even apologised to Amritpal four months ago, and since then, I have not posted anything objectionable.”
Influencers apologise
Two influencers running a page on Facebook “Jatt Babe Bandra To” have also apologised to Amritpal Mehron by uploading a video on social media. Earlier, three influencers running an Instagram account, “Pendu Jatt Records Official,” also apologised to him on Friday.
