Ex-Mayor, religious leaders meet Guv over notices of demolition
A delegation led by Arun Sood, former Mayor, met Administrator of Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria over certain demolition notices. The delegation informed Kataria that the Chandigarh Administration had been issuing these notices to religious institutions, which they consider completely unjust.
According to a court order, all religious institutions and sites established before 2009 are to be protected. Issuing notices without proper investigation and disregarding court directive is unlawful.
The delegation requested the Administration to immediately revoke all demolition notices, duly respecting the court’s orders. They also urged the government to take appropriate measures to ensure the protection of religious institutions and safeguard their rights.
The delegation included BP Arora, president of the Hindu Mahaparv Sabha, Sardar Tara Singh, head of the Central Gurdwara Sabha, along with other prominent members. The delegation expressed hope that strict adherence to court orders would be maintained for the preservation of religious sites, thereby sustaining the trust of the religious communities.
