ASI booked for forging signatures

The Jandiala Guru police have booked ASI Jang Bahadar Singh on charges of forgery. He allegedly forged signatures of an SHO for facilitating parole of a murder convict.

The incident occurred in 2020 while a case was registered following a probe conducted by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Punjab Bureau of Investigations) and after taking legal opinion of DA Legal in this connection.

A case under Sections 465 (Punishment for forgery), 466 (forgery of records of a court or of a public register), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a forged document as genuine) of the IPC was registered against him. The accused ASI is yet to be arrested.

As per information, Daljit Singh was languishing at the Amritsar Central Jail in connection with a murder that took place in December 2015. The court had sentenced him to 20-year imprisonment. He had applied for a parole and the documents pertaining to this arrived at Jandiala Guru police station.

ASI Jang Bahadar was deputed at the police station as Mukh Munshi (Head Constable). Without bringing the matter into the knowledge of the then the SHO Upkar Singh, he forged his signatures to attest the documents.

When the matter came to the knowledge of SHO Upkar Singh, he lodged a complaint with the higher officials and a probe was marked to the DSP (PBI). The police sent the signatures for the forensic analysis and found the allegations true.
