Traffic tamed Shimla police enhance management
In response to a sharp increase in vehicular movement during the ongoing peak summer tourist season, Shimla police have deployed 46 additional personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow across the town. The move comes as the city witnesses a surge of tourists, with over 2.25 lakh vehicles reported to have entered and exited Shimla in recent days.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rattan Negi stated that the newly deployed personnel have been strategically positioned at 23 previously vacant traffic duty points, particularly in congestion-prone zones. “The objective is to enhance traffic regulation and ensure a smoother commute for both locals and tourists,” he said.
To further strengthen rapid response capabilities, four more traffic bike riders have also been added to the fleet, bringing the total number to 21. “These riders are crucial for maintaining mobility and quickly addressing traffic-related issues across the town,” ASP Negi added.
Shimla police have also intensified its enforcement of traffic rules and launched a special drive to remove idle and unattended vehicles from public roads. The initiative is aimed at easing traffic snarls, especially in narrow and crowded parts of the city. Authorities have urged residents and tourists alike to opt for public transport, particularly in the core areas of the city, to help reduce road congestion.
Shimla experiences peak tourist traffic during the summer and winter seasons, with a high influx of both domestic and international visitors. This seasonal surge often overwhelms the city’s already narrow roads, leading to frequent bottlenecks and gridlocks — especially in key choke points.
With these enhanced measures, the police hope to maintain smoother vehicular movement and ensure a safer, more enjoyable experience for visitors and residents alike.
