Day after 4.5 kg heroin seizure, two peddlers sent to police custody
The drug peddler, Gurbhej Singh, arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, (ANTF), Amritsar Range, was in touch with Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Rana.
He along with his accomplice Abhijeet Singh, alias Happy, of Mahal village was on Friday arrested from Bhalla Colony in Chheharta where he was currently living. They were going to deliver the drug consignment to an unidentified person on the directions of his Pakistan-based handler Rana.
The duo was sent to police custody for three days by a local court for further investigations.
Busting yet another cross-border smuggling racket, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Amritsar Range) arrested Gurbhej and Abhijeet and confiscated 4.5 kg heroin and Rs 11 lakh drug money from their possession. The drug money was recovered from Bheja’s residence at Rattan Khurd village.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Rana was sneaking in the contraband in Indian territory using drones. Recently, he in coordination with Gurbhej had smuggled a heroin consignment.
The latter had lured Abhijeet into the illegal drug trade for earning easy money. He had accompanied him for the first time for delivering the contraband. Both used to work as PVC panel fitting workers.
Based on a reliable intelligence input, teams of the ANTF, Border Range, Amritsar, conducted an operation and arrested the duo with the heroin consignment. Later during investigations, the police seized the drug money to the tune of Rs 11 lakh from the native village of Gurbhej Singh. The police had also impounded their scooter, which was without registration number.
ANTF officials said duo was remanded in three-day police custody and further investigations were underway to burst the entire supply chain. More arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days, they added.
