Show a registry, I will pay cost, Ghuman asks Arora on Lal Lakir property rights claims

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate advocate Parupkar Singh Ghuman has launched a scathing attack on AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora and the state government over the distribution of provisional letters in Lal Lakir areas.

“Sanjeev Arora, if you have even an ounce of courage, show the people one legal registry under this gimmick. I will pay the cost myself. But you won’t — as your scheme is a lie, backed by illegal paperwork and zero legal standing,” said Ghuman.

The Supreme Court had till date not allowed any kind of registration or ownership claims in Lal Lakir areas. Yet the AAP government, in a desperate attempt to buy votes with false hope, is handing out papers that hold no legal value, misguiding thousands of innocent families, he said.

“These letters are nothing but printed lies. Letters sans khasra numbers, date of issuance, government stamp, etc. You are selling dreams built on legal quicksand — and people will not forgive this betrayal,” he added.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora conferred property rights recently to hundreds of households under the Mera Ghar Mere Naam scheme in Ludhiana.

Meanwhile, the AAP candidate said Ghuman should explain to the public that under which writ petition it had been decided by the Supreme Court that poor people had no right to get property ownership in Lal Lakir areas. Ghuman had no right to involve justice in politics. Secondly, this was an Act which was duly passed in the Vidhan Sabha and a proper notification was issued in the matter in 2021. It’s really surprising why Ghuman was silent all these years when all parties, the Congress, Akali and BJP failed to provide ownership rights to poor people living in Lal Lakir areas.

“We are for the people and by delivering these property ownership certificates, we have proved it,” he said.
