Electronic goods stolen from telecom shop

In a brazen incident that has raised serious concerns about law and order situation in the region, unidentified thieves targeted a telecom shop in Satnampura, Phagwara, making away with electronic goods worth an estimated Rs 8 lakh. The theft reportedly took place in the wee hours on Saturday.

According to Mohit Banga, the owner of the shop, had closed his store as usual the previous evening. However, on Friday morning, he received a call from a passerby, informing him that the shutter of his shop had been broken. Upon reaching the scene, Banga found the premises ransacked and several items missing.

The thieves reportedly took eight air-conditioners, mobile accessories, other valuable stock, and even dismantled the CCTV cameras installed inside the shop. The total loss has been estimated at approximately Rs 8 lakh.

Notably, this is the second incident targeting the same store within a week. Earlier, a youth allegedly duped the shop owner using a fake Paytm transaction to steal two expensive smartphones.

Members of the local Mobile Dealers’ Association visited the spot to express their concern over the rising incidents of theft. Speaking to the media, Neeraj Bansal, a representative of the association, criticised the police for their inaction and inefficiency. “If the culprits are not arrested soon, we will be forced to launch a protest,” Bansal warned.

A CCTV video of the latest incident has also surfaced, showing the suspects carrying out the theft. The footage, now in police possession, is expected to aid in the investigation.

Phagwara police have launched an inquiry into the case and assured that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
